Unlocking ocean secrets

The world’s oceans hold vast, untapped, and as-yet unknown potential for generating fundamental scientific knowledge that can translate into major breakthroughs in multiple disciplines, including climate and weather, but also human health. Our work in exploring oceans’ physical, chemical, and biological properties, as well as our interdisciplinary, biogeochemical approach, has positioned the Rosenstiel School on the leading edge of the emerging discipline of marine biomedicine.

A new center for marine biomedicine, an interdisciplinary hub where Rosenstiel School scientists will collaborate with our colleagues at the Miller School of Medicine and the College of Engineering, will expand the basic research that can advance our understanding of how physical and cognitive afflictions develop. Achieving this ambitious goal will require a state-of-the-art facility along with a powerhouse scientific team supported through endowed professorships and student scholarships.
